A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms wraps season 2: HBO eyes 2027 return

HBO has wrapped production on Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, its Dunk and Egg Game of Thrones spinoff, in early August 2026. That keeps the network lined up for a projected return in the first half of 2027.

The renewal came early. HBO picked up A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in November 2025, before Season 1 had even premiered on January 18, 2026, and that bet has paid off: strong reviews, nine Emmy nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, and a six-episode first season that kept things lean with 30-to-42-minute episodes and a more personal feel than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon.

Season 2 adapts The Sworn Sword. Peter Claffey returns as Ser Duncan the Tall, Dexter Sol Ansell is back as Egg, and Lucy Boynton, Babou Ceesay, and Peter Mullan are along for the ride.

Ira Parker has said the show will keep that same intimate focus. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms stays close to Dunk and Egg, and Season 2 leans harder into loneliness, relationships, and moral tension, not giant battles or court-sized power plays.

If HBO’s quieter, character-driven corner of Westeros worked for you, this is good news. It also fits HBO’s near-annual Game of Thrones release plan, and George R.R. Martin has been openly excited about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the Emmy attention it’s getting.

The next Dunk and Egg story will air on HBO when A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms returns.
