Absolute Wonder Woman is here: DC’s darkest Diana yet

Absolute Wonder Woman debuted on October 23, 2024, and it’s the darkest version of Diana Prince DC has done yet.

It’s part of DC’s Absolute Universe line, which launched in October 2024 with the idea of rebuilding its core heroes from the ground up. Here, Wonder Woman comes off tougher and more aggressive. The Manchester Black “gun-toting” tease got a lot of attention, but that’s not really the biggest shift. The bigger change is that Diana was raised in Hell, not on Themyscira. That one decision changes the whole character, pushing her closer to a survival-driven warrior-queen than the diplomatic, compassion-first hero people know from DC’s Earth-0 continuity.

If you want to see how far DC is willing to push one of its biggest icons, this is a version worth picking up. Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman’s series is already getting strong early buzz. And yes, DC has tested Wonder Woman legacies before: Yara Flor’s introduction in 2021’s Future State, the short-lived seven-issue Wonder Girl run, even the CW adaptation that never made it to air. This time, though, DC is rebuilding Diana herself, and readers are clearly paying attention.

You can get Absolute Wonder Woman now in comic shops and through DC’s digital platforms.
