Age of Empires 4 just released a huge update to Season One. The developers, Relic Entertainment, included lots of new content in this most recent patch. Suffice it to say; there’s more than enough to get everyone excited.

One of the most notable additions in this update is the beta version of a Content Editor. This feature holds great promise for the future of the game. With the Content Editor, players can create their own ideas for the game and upload those to the community. While many players are excited to give this new feature a try, it’s not the only thing the game received with this patch.

Another new addition with this update is the first-ever ranked season. Yes, this ranked season gives players a chance to test out their best strategies and improve their rank in the game. The ranked season will start officially on April 13th.

The developers have also added a very handy global build queue. While this may seem like a relatively small addition, it makes a big difference to gameplay. This global build queue will allow players to see the progress of all building and research activities directly on the HUD. This should allow players to be more aware of when specific tasks finish and improve their time management.

Following a lot of feedback requesting hotkeys, the developers have included quite a few new hotkeys with this update. While they mention in the patch notes that changes to the hotkeys are far from complete, it’s nice to know they are actively improving this feature. Players can now rebind hotkeys to mouse three, four, and five. Players will also be able to toggle Control Group exclusivity on and off quickly. There are many more hotkey changes, and these are just the tip of the iceberg.

As we mentioned initially, this update for Age of Empires 4, Season One, is massive. To learn more about all the additions and improvements, you can read the full patch notes here. It’s great to see the amount of work the developers are putting into the game. We look forward to seeing what else they have in store as we’re still waiting for the illusive Xbox port.
