Anthropic extends free Claude Fable 5 access through July 12

Anthropic has pushed back the end date for free access to Claude Fable 5 for paying subscribers. The new cutoff is 11:59 p.m. PT on July 12, 2026, the company said, replacing the earlier July 7 deadline.

The extension now applies to Anthropic Pro, Max, Team, and eligible seat-based Enterprise plans. Subscribers can use Claude Fable 5 for up to 50% of their weekly limits at no extra cost. Anthropic says it made the change after hearing customer frustration, though those usage caps are still a major sore spot.

When the promotion ends, access moves to paid credits: $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. Anthropic has also said it wants to roll Claude Fable 5 into standard subscriptions later, once it has enough computing capacity to support that.

Claude Fable 5 first arrived alongside Mythos 5 in early June, Anthropic said, then was pulled on June 12 after new US export controls tied to cybersecurity misuse. It returned on July 1 after those controls were lifted and after Anthropic improved its safety classifiers. The response has been mixed, with praise for coding and long-context work, but plenty of skepticism once the limits and pricing are taken into account.
