Apple confirms the foldable iPhone without confirming the foldable iPhone

The fourth beta of iOS 27 contains a very interesting clue. While we can already try the public beta of iOS 27, the code of the fourth developer release mentions “the batteries” of a rumored iPhone. Apple has just all but confirmed the foldable iPhone.

Two batteries for a foldable design

The text strings found in the Battery Health section, as reported by Macworld, tell us about the performance, wear, and replacement of the internal batteries. Current models use, of course, the singular, so the change points to the foldable iPhone as it moves toward manufacturing. The choice of the plural is far too specific to be accidental.

Earlier leaks have already mentioned two cells of 1,921 mAh and 2,962 mAh, for a combined 4,883 mAh. One battery in each half of the iPhone that would make better use of the available space and would balance the device when opened. Now, it’s official.

In fact, the text in iOS 27 even suggests that each cell could be repaired separately. If one degrades, we could replace only the battery that needs replacing, considerably reducing repair costs.

We expect to see the new iPhone Ultra in September, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, whose generation also points to major improvements in battery life. Apple is keeping things under wraps, but, meanwhile, iOS 27 is already getting the system ready for it. Interesting leak.
