Apple has announced the ten winners of its Design Awards, which include the excellent Yahoo! Weather, Evernote, Ridiculous Fishing and the iOS art-studio Procreate. If you’re looking for ideas of great looking apps that really work well, the Apple Design Awards are a great place to start, as you can be sure these are all excellent.

We were very impressed by Yahoo! Weather when it was released in April – it’s a sign the company is beginning to turn itself around, and is arguably better than the native weather app in iOS.

Evernote is another app we like a lot, an excellent note taking app that helps you ‘remember everything’, and syncs flawlessly between OS X, iOS and the web.

It’s nice to see recognition for Ridiculous Fishing, which started life as a Flash based game called Radical Fishing. While the developers Vlambeer were planning to bring the game to iOS, another company ‘borrowed’ their idea and rushed out a clone called Ninja Fishing. That game was very successful, and the story of how Ridiculous Fishing’s developers fought back to release a game that was both excellent and successful is inspirational.

Here is the full list of the Apple Design Awards:

  • WWF Together
  • Procreate
  • Badland
  • Yahoo! Weather
  • Letterpress
  • Ridiculous Fishing
  • Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders
  • Coda 2
  • Evernote
  • Finish
  • mosaic.io
