Although it was no secret, Apple has already made it official: the long-awaited renewal of the MacBook Pros and the Mac Mini finally arrives. Next to them lands the new generation of chips, the M2 Pro and M2 Max, which promise to be two brown beasts in performance.

While the design of Macs hasn’t changed one iota, it wasn’t really necessary either. The big change already came in 2021, when Apple decided to almost completely renew the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro (from here we could highlight the removal of the Touch Bar, the addition of ports, the return of MagSafe 3 and an XDR screen ).

M2 Pro and M2 Max: more graphics power

Thanks to the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, Macbook Pros take a great leap in performance aimed above all at professionals. The M2 Pro offers two variants, a 10 or 12 core CPU with up to 8 high performance cores. Its GPU can be configured with up to 19 cores, along with a maximum of 32 GB of unified memory.

On the other hand, the M2 Max ups the ante even more: extends the features of the M2 Pro with a GPU of up to 38 cores, double the bandwidth and up to 96 GB of unified memory. The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBooks also offer up to an hour more battery life, adding to the impressive runtime of the previous generation.

If we compare the CPU of the M2 Pro and M2 Max with the respective M1 Pro and M1 Max, we see that their performance improves by up to 20%. As for the GPU, the leap is more beastly, since they offer 30% more graphic performance and their neural engines are 40% faster.

The new MacBook Pros also include Wi-Fi 6E and an HDMI port capable of supporting external 4K displays up to 240Hz and 8K displays up to 60Hz. In the presentation video uploaded to YouTube, they emphasize that video game performance has improved, although it is of little use if we do not have compatible games (take note, Apple).

If you are thinking of buying one of the new MacBook Pros, prepare your kidneys to sell it on the black market, because it will not be cheap at all: in Spain, the prices of MacBook Pros start from 2.449 euros (the model with M2 Pro) and the 3.749 euros (the model with M2 Max). As a curiosity, previously the base models started from 2.249 euros (14-inch MacBook) and 2.749 euros (16-inch MacBook).

Apple’s most affordable Mac, the Mac Mini, is renewed

The Mac Mini also receives news, although like the MacBook Pro, they are only internal. Now, the Mac Mini can be configured with the M2 and M2 Pro chips, so they become another option to consider for the most demanding public. Here its price is striking, which in Spain starts at 719 euros (less than what the previous one cost with the M1 chip).
