Arrival climbs Apple TV charts again as Dune: Part Three buzz grows

Denis Villeneuve’s 2016 sci-fi drama Arrival is climbing Apple TV’s U.S. streaming charts again, and the same renewed interest is showing up in Australia.

Almost 10 years after the film first hit theaters, the rebound isn’t hard to explain. Anticipation for Dune: Part Three is building, more people are going back to Villeneuve’s earlier science-fiction films, and there’s fresh attention around a limited-edition 4K Blu-ray SteelBook release as Arrival moves into its 10th-anniversary stretch.

And it still holds up for obvious reasons. Amy Adams plays linguist Louise Banks, who’s brought in to decode the language of alien visitors, and the movie turns a first-contact setup into something much richer: a story about communication, grief, empathy, choice, and the fear of what we can’t yet understand. Arrival made more than $203 million worldwide against a reported $47 million budget, and it landed eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. That run helped cement it as one of the standout studio sci-fi films of the 2010s, and one of Villeneuve’s defining works.
