At Bungie, they are tired of cheaters in Marathon and are going to get serious

Since its launch two weeks ago, the competitive mode of Marathon has been at the center of a growing controversy due to numerous reports of cheating by players.

While the complexity of the holotags system has caught the community’s attention, frustration has grown as traps have become more common in the game. Streamers and players have rated the mode as “ruined”, which has led to a direct response from Bungie, the developer of the title.

They don’t want the game to become a nest of cheaters

Bungie has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy against cheating, indicating that they are implementing a robust detection and sanctioning system.

From now on, they are applying permanent suspensions to cheaters and working on the continuous improvement of their telemetry and detection tools. “Anti-cheat is a continuous cycle that requires monitoring and response,” Bungie mentioned in a statement, reflecting their commitment to the competitive integrity of the game.

In addition, the developer is intensifying its efforts to make it easier for players to report toxic and cheating behaviors, both in-game and through its reporting platform.

Options are being considered that would allow in-game messages to be sent to players when actions are taken in response to their reports, which could provide greater transparency and reinforce accountability among users.

Finally, Bungie is also addressing the need to improve voice moderation to manage toxic behavior in chat and is implementing measures to protect players from snipes during live streams. The company has encouraged runners to continue reporting cheating and harassment situations while working to keep the gaming environment in Tau Ceti fair and competitive.
