At last! Firefox for iPhone gets an ad blocker: here’s how to activate it

Firefox, at last, has rolled out its ad blocker on the iPhone. Privacy is essential when browsing the web. Safari leads that effort while services like DuckDuckGo follow a similar path. Mozilla focuses on ads, the source of most of the tracking we face online, and lets us block many ads directly in the browser.

An ad blocker built into Firefox and based on EasyList

According to Mozilla, its new ad blocker uses a list based on EasyList, an industry standard. The idea is for the browser to act before many ads even get to load by blocking ad networks, associated trackers, and intrusive formats like pop-up windows. A cleaner, safer browsing experience.

How to turn on the ad blocker in Firefox

The feature is, for now, experimental and roll out gradually. Mozilla lets you choose whether to turn it on. How do we do it? It’s easy. Just follow these steps:

• Open the Firefox app on your iPhone.

• Tap the menu button.

• Go to Settings.

• Scroll down to Browsing and, in the Content section, turn on the Ad Blocker option.

Alternatively, we can access the setting from the site’s menu. Keep in mind that search engine ads and sponsored content won’t be affected, since Firefox focuses, at least for now, on third-party advertising. With a single tap in the right settings, those ads will disappear completely from your browser. That’s it.
