Avengers: Doomsday debuts new D23 trailer: Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom takes center stage

Marvel Studios used D23 to unveil a big new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, ahead of the film’s December 18, 2026 release. It’s the clearest look so far at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, and it frames the movie as one of the MCU’s major event releases.

The footage shown at D23 puts Doctor Doom right at the center of the multiversal crisis. It also leans hard into Downey’s heavily scrutinized 2024 casting as Victor von Doom after Marvel first made the reveal, and it suggests a villain with some tragedy to him, someone more emotionally complicated than the usual end-of-the-world threat.

Early trailer descriptions add a few more big swings. Doom reportedly beats Thor, takes control of Mjolnir, and commands an army of Sentinels. That makes Avengers: Doomsday feel like more than another standard team-up movie. It looks more like a collision point between the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, with Chris Evans reportedly returning as Steve Rogers and the story starting to lay the groundwork for Secret Wars through incursions and universes crashing into each other.

If you follow Marvel at all, this is a trailer to keep an eye on. Disney is clearly positioning Avengers: Doomsday as one of the biggest films in the Multiverse Saga, and one of the studio’s largest box-office plays in years.
