Tekken is back with several new games to be added to the franchise, including the long-awaited Tekken 8 which is already in development and which we have been able to see in several previews. The fighting saga popularized on arcade machines during the 1990s has become one of the most popular in the industry. However, since Tekken 7, which came out in 2015 for Japanese arcade machines and two years later on multiplatform, we haven’t heard more from the license. Until now.
At a corporate investor Q&A meeting, Bandai Namco has announced that it is working on multiple Tekken games. These will start coming out during the next fiscal year, and development has been carried out in conjunction with FromSoftware, the company behind Elden Ring, Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
The company also plans to release other major titles very soon, such as Armored Core 6. Many of them are developed by foreign studios and financed by the parent company.
When is Tekken 8 coming out?
Bandai Namco has confirmed that Tekken 8 is scheduled for release before March 31, 2024. This means that we still have a year to see it become a reality, but probably the development is well advanced and ready to start the first tests with testers.
Regarding the other Tekken titles mentioned in the document, it is not clear if this is a translation error or if Bandai Namco really intends to continue expanding the universe of the series. Most likely there is some spin-off planned to be released alongside the main game. Although it could also be a re-release of Tekken 7 that includes all the DLC content, before the next game is released.
Katsuhiro Harada, producer of the series, has stated that they are actively working on Tekken 8, but that the development still has some time left. Be that as it may, a year to perfect the fighting title seems enough time. We’ll have to wait and see if their plans come true.
