Bannerman is official: Netflix and AMC greenlight new spy thriller

Netflix and AMC officially gave go-ahead in August 2026. It’s a new thriller series built from John R. Maxim’s five Bannerman novels, and the pitch is easy to picture: John Wick-level combat with the bruised, deeply human spy mood of Slow Horses.

It also marks the first co-production between Netflix and AMC. That puts Netflix in business with the network behind Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead. The project was formally greenlit in August 2026, though reports say it had been in development at AMC since January 2023. Even now, there’s still no cast announcement and no release date.

The story centers on retired covert operative Paul Bannerman, now living in suburban Connecticut, until old enemies, government pressure, an ex-cop, and a pack of other retired assassins pull him back into a life he clearly hasn’t made peace with. That means action, dark humor, and a fair amount of regret. Shane Black is co-writing the pilot and directing the first two episodes. Craig Silverstein will serve as showrunner, with Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten on board as executive producers.

If you like spy stories with hard action and veteran operatives who’ve taken a beating, keep an eye on.

In the US and Canada, Bannerman will air on AMC first, then land on Netflix 90 days after the finale. In Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, it’ll be available on both platforms. Everywhere else, it’s a Netflix exclusive.
