Netflix has announced Below, a six-episode limited series set to premiere worldwide on October 8, 2026. The show heads to Canada’s Atlantic coast and mixes small-town drama with supernatural horror and a creature mystery.
Netflix’s official synopsis says the series, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, centers on Calvin Penney. He’s a Newfoundland fisherman played by Josh Hartnett, still haunted by his father’s unexplained death at sea. When a strange iceberg drifts into his isolated harbor town, it brings an unseen threat with it, and Calvin has to protect both his family and the wider community while finally facing what happened on the water years ago.
Mackenzie Davis plays a visiting scientist and marine researcher, while Charlie Heaton plays Calvin’s son, Wade. Joshua Close, Rohan Campbell, Ruby Stokes, Natasha Henstridge, and Willow Kean round out the cast. The series comes from creator and showrunner Jesse McKeown, whose past credits include The Umbrella Academy, Letterkenny, and The Sinner. Netflix says Below was filmed around St. John’s and pulls from local myths, the collapse of the cod fishery, and the region’s resettlement history.
If atmospheric survival-horror mysteries are your thing, this one looks like it could be worth a watch, especially since the creature is still being kept mostly out of sight and the first trailer has already prompted comparisons to Jaws, Stranger Things, and Outer Banks.
You can watch Below on Netflix worldwide starting October 8.
