It is not easy to decide which mobile we should buy. Unless we have enough money to throw it at the most cutting-edge terminal on the market, we should look for one that offers a balance between quality and price. And it is not necessary to spend a lot of money to have a more than decent smartphone.

Android 13 DOWNLOAD

The situation is not the same as it was a decade ago: within the Android mid-range, we can find very good phones with features that would not be unusual to see even in the most premium devices. However, it is difficult for us to choose if we do not know where to look or what features to take into account when buying.

Before buying: what should I look for?

Although a smartphone brings together many features (some of them unique), these are some of the sections you should look at before buying:

Processor: This is the heart of the smartphone. A powerful processor will make our mobile have a longer life. Look for them to be of recognized brands (Qualcomm or Mediatek).

Screen: The screen is where we will do everything: access applications, consume multimedia content, play video games, etc. A good panel will make our experience much more pleasant. The best terminals will have screens with OLED technology, 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Camera: Nowadays, the camera has become one of the most important sections. Here we will have to look at the sensor, the number of megapixels and the optics used.

Storage: The proliferation of cloud storage has meant that internal space is not as important as it used to be in the past. However, more storage will mean that we can install more apps and also save more files of all kinds.

Battery: This is one of the aspects with the most room for improvement in smartphones. A good autonomy (coupled with support for fast charging) will ensure that our mobile will not leave us stranded at the last moment.

That said, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting smartphones we can find today:

Nothing Phone (1)

Although its launch took place in 2022, the truth is that it is still one of the terminals to take into account this year. This “different” proposal comes from the hand of Carl Pei’s company, best known for having previously worked at OnePlus. The Nothing Phone (1) has an OLED screen with 120 Hz, dual 50-megapixel camera and a transparent design equipped with the Glyph interface (name of the transparent housing and LED system).

In terms of processor, we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ and it is sold with 8 or 12 GB of RAM along with 128 or 256 GB of storage. Its battery is 4,500 mAh and also has 33W fast charging.

Poco X5

Its great price makes it one of the best options on this list. It is a large terminal (6.67 inches) that mounts a screen with AMOLED technology, Full HD + resolution and 120 Hz. In addition, it has a good brightness (1,200 nits) that will help us to see the screen even in situations with a lot of clarity.

Of course, its great price comes at a cost and that is the processor. The Poco X5 incorporates a Snapdragon 695, a chip that was first launched in 2021. However, it will serve you to do everything and more with your terminal. Of course, if you like to play, you will have to do it with the graphics at a minimum. On the other hand, the camera will give you good results, especially in bright situations.

Realme GT Neo 2

If you like to play games, this could be the phone for you. Like the Poco X5, the Realme GT Neo 2 is a fairly large mobile (6.62 inches) and has a 120Hz AMOLED panel (although without adaptive rate). Its touch sampling rate is 600 Hz, which provides great fluidity when browsing and typing.

Inside, we find a Snapdragon 870 with 12 GB of RAM that will help us to squeeze even the most demanding games (such as Genshin Impact or Call of Duty). In addition, the Realme GT Neo 2 has a vapor chamber that will help keep the terminal from overheating.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Although it is the most expensive phone on the list, it is also the latest top of the range from Samsung. A 200-megapixel camera, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 6.8-inch AMOLED screen and QHD+ resolution… this phone has the best we can find on the market today. Although its design is excessively continuist (it is a copy of the Galaxy S22 Ultra), it is still very nice and premium. Here at Softonic we have already talked a little about this terminal, if you are interested in knowing more about it.

Google Pixel 7

If you want to enjoy the best Android experience, the Google Pixel 7 is the answer. The Pixel 7 has an appearance quite similar to that of the Pixel 6 and inside, we have the Google Tensor G2, a chip manufactured by Google itself. In addition, it is also accompanied by the Titan M2 security coprocessor. The latter is responsible for protecting our most sensitive data and is responsible for other tasks such as verifying the access code of the lock screen.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11

The “bargain” phones par excellence. The Xiaomi Redmi Note has a reputation for offering very cheap terminals with pretty decent features for everyday use. Waiting to receive the next member of the family (the Redmi Note 12), its current version is presented as a fairly interesting mobile.

As has become the general rule, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 incorporates a large screen (6.43 inches), with Full HD+ resolution and 90 Hz refresh rate. Inside it beats a Snapdragon 680 with two possible configurations, 4 or 6 GB of RAM. Its battery is 5,000 mAh and has 33W fast charging. For everyday use its performance is more than decent, but do not ask for very demanding tasks either.

As for the camera, we have a 50-megapixel main sensor and three more lenses (wide-angle, macro and depth sensor). As impressive as it looks on paper, the truth is that the photos may leave a bit to be desired in terms of sharpness.
