BitTorrent Surf extension hits beta for Chrome and Firefox

BitTorrent Surf Chrome

BitTorrent Surf logoAfter spending four months in alpha on Google Chrome, BitTorrent Surf has finally hit beta and is now available on both Chrome and Firefox. The diminutive browser extension functions as a powerful torrent client with built-in search and discovery. The interface has stayed the same but BitTorrent has been working hard on improving the search aspect of Surf. The company has added a recommendation engine to Surf, which will serve up relevant content suggestions. This will help artists get more visibility by promoting their free content higher up in the results.

BitTorrent is trying hard to position the Surf extension as a legitimate means of downloading content. In a blog post announcing the Surf beta, the company states that its goal is to “help creators and fans connect over content.” By offering up legitimate free content, BitTorrent is trying hard to make Surf seem like an avenue for downloading legal content. Unfortunately, tons of pirated materials still shows up within the app.
