Netflix has just pulled off one of its biggest surprises in recent years. Despite the fact that the creators of Black Mirror warned after season 5 that they would not return until “the real world was as scary” as the one in the series, the platform has just announced the sixth season with its respective trailer.

If we take into consideration that after 2019 -when the fifth season was launched- we have lived through the COVID-19 pandemic and other events such as the war in Ukraine or the explosion of a large volcano, the truth is that the series has its justification to return. But what will the next season bring?

Black Mirror Season 6 Trailer

In the trailer for the sixth season of Black Mirror we find traces of storylines of all kinds. We have from an Aaron Paul astronaut -who we imagine won’t have a very good time- to a struggling Salma Hayek. Of course, technology is once again the key point that brings it all together: cell phones that chase you, old internet first tunes, digital watches… everything is united around this term that Black Mirro has done so well in its previous seasons.

But you’d better see for yourselves:

Cast of Black Mirror Season 6

Undoubtedly, the most striking thing about the announcement of the sixth season of the Netflix series is its cast. Although, since the last few seasons, we are used to being delighted with great performances by actors and actresses such as Miley Cyrus, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jon Hamm or Anthony Mackie, the series continues to bring in big stars.

The stars of the new season will be Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Kate Mara (House of Cards), Michael Cera (Barbie), Salma Hayek (Eternals), Zazie Beetz (Joker), Josh Hartnett (Penny Dreadful) and Rory Culkin (Scream 4). In addition, the cast is rounded out by many other reputable actors including Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy, Auden Thornton, Ben Barnes, Clara Rugaard, Daniel Portman, Danny Ramirez, Himesh Patel, John Hannah, Monica Dolan, Myha’la Herrold, Paapa Essiedu, Rob Delaney and Samuel Blenkin.

In the absence of seeing new previews of what is to come or for Netflix to give us some more information, for now we know that all of them have actively participated in the making of this new season and the credits already appear on IMDb.

Black Mirror Season 6 Episodes

The names of the Black Mirror Season 6 episodes have not yet been revealed, as well as their synopses. The first two seasons had 3 episodes, as well as the fifth, but the third and fourth -when the series was acquired by Netflix- featured series. Considering the trailer, which seems to gather a lot of stories, it seems that they will pull more by their formula of seasons 3 and 4.

About what will happen in these chapters, we barely have of clues the trailer. But Charlie Brooker, the creator of the fiction and who is behind the scripts, has made it clear that it will be “the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected so far”. Although it will be difficult to achieve after such good episodes as Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too, San Junipero or Hang the DJ, it is certainly an interesting challenge. This is how Brooker makes it clear:

“I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should present stories that are completely different from each other and keep surprising people (and myself) or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined and can keep reinventing itself.”

Black Mirror Season 6 Release Date

Netflix has announced that the next batch of Black Mirror episodes will be available on the VOD platform next June. We don’t have a specific day yet, but we’re in for a very dystopian summer.
