Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the first trailer for Another Simple Favor, the highly anticipated sequel to the successful 2018 comedy, A Simple Favor. This new film will premiere globally on Prime Video on May 1, following its debut on the opening night of the SXSW Film Festival.
Another little favor
The sequel reunites stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick once again, who starred in the first installment, which grossed nearly 100 million dollars worldwide. Another Simple Favor takes viewers from the idyllic suburbs of Connecticut to the glamorous Italian Riviera, where an extravagant wedding unleashes a plot of mystery, deception, and deadly secrets.
In this new story, Kendrick’s character, Stephanie, a widowed blogger, reunites with her best friend, Emily, played by Lively, under intriguing circumstances. As you may remember, in A Simple Favor, Emily fakes her disappearance as part of an elaborate fraud scheme. The plot thickens, and in the end, Stephanie becomes a successful vlogger and amateur detective, while Emily faces the consequences of her actions in prison.
The trailer for Another Simple Favor shows Stephanie at the presentation of her new true crime book, The Faceless Blonde, focused on the figure of Emily, who makes a surprise appearance. Stephanie wonders if Emily has escaped from prison, while in Italy, tensions rise, revealing old grudges and suspicions. Emily’s line in the trailer, if I try to kill you, it would be an incredible sequel, could suggest a comedic nod to that.
Paul Feig returns as director, with a script by Jessica Sharzer, who wrote the original adaptation. The sequel also features the addition of new cast members, Elizabeth Perkins and Allison Janney, indicating an expansion of the narrative. With this intriguing first look, Another Simple Favor promises an exciting return to the world of secrets and deception that captivated fans in the first film.
