Bloomburrow is the most original world of Magic: The Gathering, and this is its story

The new Magic: The Gathering collection takes us to a world we had never visited before. This one is called Bloomburrow. Inspired by the stories of anthropomorphic animals from fables and modern adventurous animal stories, it is a world where there is not a single human or humanoid being. Only animals. And that is reflected in the card collection itself.

It would be easy to think that being a collection of Magic, where all the characters are animals, its story could be uninteresting. More childish and less interesting than what is common for Wizards of the Coast. But nothing could be further from the truth. This is a story with interesting characters, great conflicts, consequences for the entire multiverse, and familiar faces with new whiskers.

The story told in Bloomborrow begins with Helga, a frogfolk from the village of Pondside. Unable to concentrate on anything, considered a disappointment by those around her, one day she has a terrible vision: the appearance of the Sun Falcon, a terrifying Beast of Calamity that can destroy everything. Although she warns the people of her village, no one pays attention to her.

Shortly after, the monstrous Night Owl will attack the village. Although Helga will manage to escape, she will do so isolated from the others. Falling unconscious, when she wakes up she will find herself in a strange room, in Goodhill, a village several hours away. There she will be taken care of by Mabel, a healing mouse with a great adventurous spirit.

Although Mabel is initially skeptical about her visions and the attack of Night Owl, she acknowledges that it is possible. Feeling responsible for it, she travels to Pondside and there she finds a legendary weapon that once belonged to Lily of the Valley, a champion who once protected the lands they inhabit. In this way, Mabel decides to embark on a journey to clarify what happened, gathering a group with her, to which Helga joins.

Upon discovering that Pondside has been ravaged, they also discover that they are being looted by a group of necromancer squirrels. Following them to the City of the Three Trees, where they meet a very peculiar person: Ral Zarek. A human, planeswalker, who upon arriving in Bloomsburrow looking for his friend Jace Beleren, has turned into an otter. Recognizing Jace from her dreams, Helga convinces Ral to join them on their journey.

When they start searching for information, a flood ravages the city, but it ends up being a blessing in disguise. In this way, they meet Coffey and Tucker, who put them on the trail of their objective: the infamous Garravil, who has stolen a Calamity Beast egg. All orchestrated by a mysterious figure that everything points to as being that Beleren fellow.

From there, Mabel’s omen leads them to Puerto Fontanal, a luxurious floating city. There they discover that the King possesses the egg and that his intention is to use it to dominate the entire valley. This initiates a fierce battle where, when things seem to go wrong, the Night Owl appears to scare away the Stormy Falcon. Mabel eventually returns the egg to the Night Owl, ending the problem of the Beasts and the King. At least for now.

Where is Jace Beleren? Why did Mabel have visions of the Hawks? How will Ral escape Bloomburrow now that he can’t jump between planes? And also, what will be the fate of Bloomburrow?

Some of these details may be known when the complete collection is released. This will happen on August 2nd, being the one hundred and first collection of Magic: The Gathering. It is clear is that whatever Jace Beleren is plotting, it is not over yet. It appears that we will still have to wait for a few more collections to know all the details, and to find out what finally happens to Mabel, Helga, and Ral.
