The year 2026 has started promisingly for the video game industry, with a series of early access releases that have captured the attention of players. Titles like Pokémon Pokopia, Cairn, Crimson Desert, Mewgenics, and Windrose have stood out in this initial period, receiving positive feedback overall.
Three blockbuster games
However, Capcom has established itself as the undisputed leader at the beginning of the year, thanks to its recent successes: Resident Evil: Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Pragmata. All of these titles have received excellent reviews, according to Metacritic, strengthening Capcom’s position in the video game market.
Recently, the official Capcom USA account posted a message on social media that generated great anticipation, stating that “we are not done with 2026 yet.” They accompanied the post with images promoting their current releases and a preview of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a title that many are eagerly awaiting. The company clearly feels confident in its ability to continue its streak of successes, although the challenge will increase with the imminent release of GTA VI by Rockstar, which could change the course of the industry once again.
With the backdrop of fierce competition, Capcom’s titles are expected to be strong contenders for Game of the Year, thanks to their track record of outstanding sales and reviews. If Onimusha: Way of the Sword manages to maintain this standard, it is likely that Capcom will remain a dominant name in the gaming space throughout the rest of 2026. Despite the growing pressure from major releases like the highly anticipated GTA VI, Capcom has already secured months of significant achievements in the gaming realm.
