There is no doubt that ChatGPT is changing the way we look at Artificial Intelligence. The OpenAI platform is assisting with various tasks, from drafting emails to SEO optimization in media. But its uses can go much further, and one of the most intriguing possibilities is the ability to write scripts.
In the past, we have already tested how ChatGPT performs in scriptwriting, and although the results may not be perfect, it poses such a threat that it is considered one of the rivals by the Hollywood screenwriters’ strike. Now, we have learned that one of the most intriguing series of our time has already experimented with its capabilities: Black Mirror.
An episode of Black Mirror written with AI?
While we eagerly await the highly anticipated sixth season of the series on Netflix, which promises to be even more intriguing than the previous ones, we have learned that for this new batch of episodes, they have experimented with ChatGPT in the scriptwriting process. However, not everything has turned out as expected. Showrunner Charlie Brooker discusses this in an interview:
“I have played around with ChatGPT. The first thing I did was write, ‘generate an episode of Black Mirror,’ and what came out initially seemed believable, but upon closer inspection, it was garbage… All it did was search for all the synopses of Black Mirror episodes and mix them together. Then, if you dig a bit deeper, you realize, ‘Oh, there’s actually no original thought here.'”
In this way, although Brooker has tried to test ChatGPT to see if it would be capable of doing his job, it has become clear that it is far from being able to carry it out. For now, it seems that AI is far from being able to mimic human creativity. But, of course, it may all be a matter of time.
