Sources close to Reuters reported that Baidu Inc, a company specializing in Internet services, will soon launch a chatbot similar to ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular conversational model. According to people familiar with the matter, this technology will be available as an app. In addition, it will also gradually be integrated into Baidu’s own search engine.

The technology behind ChatGPT requires the use of data. ChatGPT is “trained” with a large database where all possible types of texts and writings are included. Thanks to that, it is able to generate sentences and give specific answers to questions. In addition, you can also have a natural conversation with ChatGPT, just as you would with a human.

The use of chatbots in China is very common. However, these focus on social interactions while ChatGPT functions more as a support tool for programming and typing. Baidu plans to incorporate the results generated by the chatbot when users make requests. This way, the typical list of links that you can see on all search engines will not appear.

Microsoft and Google bet on artificial intelligence

The guys in Redmond also have their sights set on all that tools like ChatGPT can offer. The company invested $10 billion in OpenAI, ChatGPT’s developers, and will integrate the chatbot’s capabilities with Bing to deliver more accurate and useful search results. On the other hand, Google has issued a code red among its workers due to the threat that the rise of AIs could pose to the company.

However, Google also has its own projects on its hands, such as Sparrow (its own version of ChatGPT) and MusicLM. The latter is capable of generating songs and short musical pieces from a description.

Beijing-based Baidu has invested heavily in this technology, including cloud services, chips and even aspects such as autonomous driving.
