With the release of iOS 17, Apple has added new features to Siri, its virtual assistant. One particularly interesting feature is the ability to use Siri to send messages through compatible third-party apps, in addition to Apple’s default Messages app.

This means that now we can use apps like Telegram or WhatsApp to send messages using just our voice through Siri. Let’s see how to do it.

Selecting our messaging app through Siri

The process is simple. When we ask Siri to send a message, it will give us the option to select the app from which we want to send it. To check if a messaging app is compatible with Siri or to enable or disable it from the options, we can follow these steps:

  1. We open the Settings app on our iPhone or iPad.
  2. We enter Siri & Search.
  3. We enter the app we want to check or configure.
  4. We turn on or off “Use with ‘Ask Siri’.”

Once we’ve enabled this option for an app, we can manually choose it when we ask Siri to send a message. The procedure is as follows:

  1. We summon Siri with a “Hey Siri” or by holding down the side button on our iPhone or iPad.
  2. We ask Siri to send a message to one of our contacts.
  3. On the message card that appears at the top, we tap the Messages icon next to the person’s name.
  4. We choose another compatible messaging app from the drop-down menu.
  5. necessary, we edit the message and tap Send.

It may seem like a small detail, but sometimes with certain people, we need to use a specific app to communicate. In this regard, iOS 17 has opened up a range of possibilities by allowing us greater flexibility and customization in how and through which apps we write.
