Amazon Prime Video has been a firm bet for years to compete against titans such as Netflix, HBO Max or Disney Plus in the streaming race. It has amply demonstrated this with its own fictions such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power -the most expensive series in history, almost nothing- and The Boys. But this month it wants to up the ante.

April is going to be a month full of interesting premieres for platforms like Netflix or Disney+, but Amazon Prime Video is not far behind. This month it will premiere its second most expensive series after the one set in Middle Earth, and also some very interesting new releases. We leave you with some of them.

Featured Amazon Prime Video releases in April

Citadel

Directed by the Russo Brothers, the series centers on the downfall of Citadel, a world-renowned espionage agency. After facing the agents of Manticore, a syndicate that manipulates the world from the shadows, it must be enhanced to protect the entire planet from the terrible consequences this can have.

The protagonist of Citadel is Richard Madden, and the idea is that it will become one of the most awarded thrillers of the small screen. Not for less, it has the Russo’s behind it, who know a lot about this. Undoubtedly, this is Amazon’s biggest bet of the year.

Dead Ringers

Remake of David Cronenberg‘s film in which two identical twins who operate together replace each other in everyday life to help each other. It is a cult film that features several plot twists and, as usual with Cronenberg, a lot of blood.

The series adapting this story will feature Rachel Weisz as the lead (and producer). In this new version, the twins change sex to make way for Weisz’s spectacular performance. In addition, instead of being set in Vancouver, where the original story took place, it travels to New York to become more global.

Even so, the series maintains many aspects of the original. The protagonists’ last name is the same, Mantle. And Rachel Weisz herself, a fan of the original film and producer of the series, has ensured that, although it takes other paths, it maintains the spirit of Cronenberg.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – Season 5

Another of Amazon Prime Video’s most awarded series is this comedy that follows the story of “Midge” Maisel, a young Jewish housewife who becomes a comedian and one of the pioneers of stan-up comedy in the United States.

The series has been a hit with audiences for four seasons now and has won over audiences with its mix of drama and humor, which has earned it several Golden Globes and Emmy Awards. In its fifth season it will reach the end, so the audience will have one last chance to meet again with the comedian.
