Fortnite Season 5 is now officially halfway over, and that means Season 6 is right around the corner. With an official ending date of September 18, there’s been quite a bit of speculation about what the next Battle Royale season could be bringing to the table. Here are all the clues, hints, and rumors that we’ve been able to dig up about Fortnite’s mysterious sixth season.

First and foremost, anybody who’s played Fortnite during the past season will have noticed the giant glowing rift hanging over the Battle Royale map. The rift in question was caused by a missile detonation that marked the end of Season 4. Though the missile was seemingly intended to strike Tilted Towers, someone or something intervened and sent the missile off course, eventually opening the time-bending rift that has been hanging over the map for weeks.

Though Fortnite players noticed the rift steadily getting larger in the weeks leading up to Season 5, a new pattern has emerged: the rift is closing. As of now, the rift is so small as to be almost gone, with only a few distinct spots left open.

This all begs the question: what happens when the rift closes? Data miners and other players have seemingly confirmed that one major in-game event is left before the end of Season 5, and based on the way things are playing out, this event seems like it will coincide with the rift finally closing completely. So… what’s going to happen?

Most fans have speculated that Fortnite’s long-rumored Time Traveler will be making an appearance. This mysterious being was apparently the entity that intervened to stop the missile launch, which explains the sudden appearance of the Viking Village and the other time-traveling areas and items that have been popping up throughout Season 5. Our fingers are crossed that the final Season 5 event will finally let us get a glimpse at this Time Traveller in one way or another.

So, what does the rift’s closure mean for the game? The portals around the map will likely be disappearing as well. Like Season 3’s hop rocks which appeared with the meteor, the portals coincided with the appearance of the rift. With the rift closing, it seems likely that we’ll be saying goodbye to the portals as well, and that means we won’t be able to rely on teleporting to escape from the storm or other sticky situations. If the hop rocks and portals are any indicator, though, this pattern will continue into Season 6. We’ll probably be seeing the addition of a brand new environmental game mechanic in the weeks ahead.

Finally, there’s the matter of changes to the map itself. Each Season so far has seen the map being altered in huge ways. For Season 4, it was the meteor crater. For Season 5, it was the addition of Paradise Palms and the Viking Village. What’s in store for Season 6? Youtuber Braderz has some theories that we’re inclined to believe:

So, a pyramid rising from beneath Loot Lake? Though it seems like an unlikely theory, taking into account a few key elements make this theory a little more likely than you might think. The fact that the Playground mode trailer teased a lot of Ancient Egypt elements that we never saw after that point is a big factor, and those mysterious textures under the lake also seem like pretty compelling evidence.

It’s also worth noting that the skins released during a season also tend to hint at the theme of the next season. During Season 5, we saw quite a few aquatic themed skins, like Lifeguards, Scuba Divers, and even a few goofy looking sharks. Does this mean we’re in for a new Aquatic theme for Season 6? Perhaps that pyramid we’re seeing isn’t going to be a pyramid at all, but Atlantis or some other underwater kingdom?

Whatever Season 6 has in store, we expect to see a big event on the horizon in the coming days that should clarify things one way or another. Fortnite players should keep their eyes peeled, and be sure to check back with us for more info as Season 6 draws closer.

They’ve probably been regretting that mistake ever since, because as soon he finished his first lap in Gran Turismo 3, Alex was hooked for life. In addition to writing for Softonic, Alex has turned that love of games into a voice acting career, and has voiced everything from grizzled old soldiers to vampire lords. When he's not gaming or getting behind the microphone, Alex can probably be found wandering the woods around Boston or putting together some new culinary delight in his kitchen.
