And it’s not surprising considering the overwhelming experiences for the “Swifties.” As if the release of “Midnights” or Swift’s controversial current relationship wasn’t enough, we now have the spectacular “The Eras Tour” to add to the mix. It’s no wonder that at this point, attendees of Taylor’s concerts are forgetting what they have witnessed live.

Fans of the singer have taken to social media to express that they don’t remember what they have seen or heard at the concerts. They claim to have missed out on certain songs, experienced blurry and unclear moments… The memories of the “Swifties” are being affected, and few can find an explanation for such a phenomenon.

Time magazine has sought to unravel the mystery and find an explanation for such forgetfulness. The answer may not surprise you.

Jenna Tocatlian, a Swift fan who attended the concert at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, claims that “post-concert amnesia is real.”

In her mind, there are still gaps, and she can’t recall with clarity which songs were performed or what happened during the evening. As she puts it, she believes she experienced sensory overload due to the overwhelming emotions she felt during the concert: “You experience all these emotions while they play your favorite songs, and deep down you think, ‘Wow, where am I?'”

And the truth is, she’s not too far off. The scientific explanation has to do with our body’s response to excessively high levels of excitement. At a certain point, our body processes it as stress. In fact, it’s likely that you have experienced something similar on other special occasions as well.

When the stress level in our body increases, even if it’s due to being overly excited, the neurons associated with memory start to “burn out.” As a result, this leads to difficulties in creating new memories. So, now you know: it’s okay to be slightly excited, but don’t go overboard if you don’t want to end up forgetting everything.
