The Mobile World Congress (MWC) has already kicked off. The technological event returns once again to Barcelona and it is estimated that it will bring together some 80,000 people.
King Felipe VI and Pedro Sánchez have already inaugurated the Mobile World Congress under the layer of snow that has fallen on Barcelona. Today, Monday, February 27, the fair kicks off and will be held until next Thursday. After the meeting with the authorities, the Head of State has visited several stands of the fair, before the numerous attendees crowded to visit the event. During these days, we will see more than 2,000 companies presenting their latest technological advances and products.
Connectivity, the main protagonist of MWC 2023
Today, Pedro Sánchez will meet with the CEO of Orange (Christel Heydemann) and the COO of Meta (Javier Oliván), as both companies have big plans for the future of the country.
On the other hand, the event organizer, GSMA, has announced a new immersive space called “Journey to the future”. This space, located in Hall 6, will be open to attendees and will offer a unique look into the “future of technology and connectivity solutions”.
Among many novelties, we will of course also see what will be the great protagonist of 2023: artificial intelligence. Some of the innovations involve the use of AIs in hospitals, the creation of 3D printed bioplastic material or the use of robotic exoskeletons, among others.
However, the great leitmotif of this year is internet connectivity. The 2023 edition of MWC will focus on the cloud, the metaverse, 5G networks and augmented reality. Of course, blockchain and other aspects such as quantum computing will not be missing.

The cost of coming to MWC 2023
Coming to visit the largest cell phone fair will not be cheap. According to Booking itself, accommodations in Barcelona have risen 227%, with figures that can reach 400 euros per night during these days. This large increase is normal if we take into account the large peaks of demand that occur once these important dates arrive.
Despite the high prices, the Mobile World Congress has also served to relaunch tourism in the city of Barcelona. After the pandemic, the 2023 edition marks a return to normality, without restrictions of any kind.
