Released in 2021, Joe Carnahan’s 107-minute action thriller stars Gerard Butler, Frank Grillo, and Alexis Louder. It all plays out in and around a small-town police station, which gives the movie a tight, nasty throwback feel: a con artist trying to hide from a hitman, with a rookie cop stuck in the middle.

If stripped-down action is your thing, this one’s worth squeezing in before it disappears. Copshop didn’t do much in theaters, but it connected far better once it hit streaming and kept showing up in Netflix’s top 10. Its box-office disappointment also gets misstated a lot online, since the reported budget was closer to $43.5 million, not $6 million, against roughly $6.8 million worldwide.

Critics were kinder to it. Copshop holds a Certified Fresh 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, even though both Frank Grillo and Joe Carnahan later took issue with the theatrical cut and said Grillo’s performance was trimmed down in the final edit.
