If you only ever try one first-person shooter, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive should be it. It’s simple, fast and fun online first person shooting at its purest, and when I reviewed the game earlier this year, I was happy to give it 9/10. The great news is that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is free to play this weekend, on Mac or PC, until 1pm PST on Sunday.

If you don’t have Steam installed, you can download and install it here. You need to create an account, but it’s completely free.

Once Steam is installed, simply click this link to get into the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive free weekend.

There’s a good ranking system in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and if you start in the ‘casual’ game modes you won’t be too overwhelmed by skilled opponents. The nature of Counter-Strike means that any newcomer will have to learn the game the hard way, though, which means plenty of dying. But as I say in my review, if you watch other players when you are dead, you can quickly pick up tactics and learn maps, and get ready to be more lethal in the next round.

See you in Counter Strike: Global Offensive this weekend!
