It leans hard into dark fantasy, with some of the emotional weight that made Fullmetal Alchemist land so well, plus the slick, violent edge people usually go to Devil May Cry for.

The story centers on twins Yuru and Asa, who were separated at birth and are both tied to supernatural Daemons. When their paths start to reconnect, the setup stops feeling like a mystery pretty quickly and turns into a brutal conflict that stretches from a pre-modern village into the modern world.

Bones Film’s adaptation has already picked up a lot of praise from early viewers and reviewers. The visuals pop. The animation looks polished. It moves at a sharp pace without losing the sibling drama, and the bigger twists have been landing too.

If you like fantasy that’s driven by its characters and actually has some bite, this one looks easy to recommend: the early response from viewers in Japan has been strong, the anime has pushed more attention toward the manga, and user scores have landed at 8.06 on MyAnimeList and 8.6/10 on IMDb.

As of July 20, 2026, 15 episodes have aired, and you can stream Daemons of the Shadow Realm on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Netflix in select regions, though the English dub hit a small bump when episode 5 was delayed by two weeks.
