DC’s 10 Strongest Magic Users, Ranked: updated list now online

DC Comics has refreshed its ranking of the strongest magic users in its universe, and the list is already online, with a new look at the publisher’s biggest mystical heavyweights.

If DC usually brings to mind capes, gadgets, and alien power sets, this ranking shifts the focus to characters drawing on ancient spells, divine forces, and other dimensions. It’s also getting fresh attention through classic comics, animation, and live-action adaptations.

Power levels always move around from one story to the next, but DC’s ranking still keeps the same names near the top: The Spectre for divine wrath, Doctor Fate for reality manipulation, Phantom Stranger for mystery, Mordru for dark sorcery, Zatanna for her flexible backward spellcasting, Raven for demonic heritage, Circe for immortality, the Wizard Shazam for foundational magic, John Constantine for cunning, and Enchantress for power that’s unstable and catastrophic.

And these aren’t characters defined by ordinary physical limits. Their boundaries tend to be philosophical more than anything else, because they’re the ones bargaining with demons, channeling gods, rewriting memory, and opening alternate realms.

If you keep up with DC’s magic side, this list is worth a look. Zatanna can beat rivals on technique, John Constantine can outplay enemies who are much stronger than he is, and these 10 still come off as the clearest all-time heavyweights.
