It’s hard to believe, but Dead Island 2 is going to end up being released. In just seven days, the new installment of the saga will arrive on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox X | S Series and PC. It’s a real miracle that this is happening after the way this development has been going.
We tell you everything you need to know and what to expect from Dead Island 2, the new game from Deep Silver.
A tumultuous development
In the history of video games there are dozens of developments that have been very hard from the point of view of reboots, cancellations and so on. Dead Island 2 is one of them. To give us an idea, the game was commissioned to the studio Yager Development back in 2012, that is, more than a decade ago. For a couple of years it was in development without any problem, in fact, it was presented in society at E3 2014 with a trailer that is already remembered by all players.
It seemed that production was progressing well and smoothly, with a release scheduled for early 2015. However, that year arrived, the game stopped receiving news and the next thing we knew was a delay until 2016, although the most serious thing happened during the summer of 2015. In July, Deep Silver, publisher of the title, informed all players that the agreement with Yager Development had ended. Likewise, the German studio dissolved the team.

Those who do not know the story may think that it would already be only a matter of time before the studio that has finally released the game, Dambuster Studios, took it, but the story still took a few more twists and turns. In March 2016, Deep Silver communicated that the development was going to Sumo Digital. Months and years passed, and from Deep Silver we were told that it was still in development. However, reality hit hard again: in August 2019, Sumo Digital left the development and it was taken over, now yes, by Dambuster Studios.
In total, it has been four years of development since the last studio took the game. Now, however, it will be released for real this coming April 21, 2023.

What is Dead Island 2?
Behind Dead Island 2 hides a videogame where the infected have filled the city of Los Angeles. After the outbreak of a virus, its inhabitants swarm throughout the city killing and infecting the few who remain alive. And of course, it’s up to us to survive.
In this first-person adventure we have to overcome all the obstacles that appear before us. To do this, the game bets on the most exaggerated brutality and melee. In fact, this is one of the hallmarks of its latest gameplay videos: the player is expected to try to perform as many melee actions as possible.
From here, our character can be customized with his own skills, that is, we must choose what interests us most. All this comes garnished with a story that will go through Los Angeles in search of salvation.
