Ever wanted to bring something from real life into Minecraft? Soon you’ll be able to with the DekkoScan app for iOS. Redditor, u/portemantho, posted screenshots of the DekkoScan app scanning and analyzing an owl to create it out of blocks in Minecraft.
The app uses the camera on your iOS device to take video, using the footage to map out the object in space. After a scan is complete, users will be able to export the information into their save game folder or the MCEdit world editor.
While DekkoScan is impressive for a mobile app, its developers have noted the shortcomings over having only one camera. Unlike Minecraft + Kinect, which uses two stereoscopic cameras for more accurate rendering, having only one camera makes it difficult to detect depth.
DekkoScan is currently in Apple’s app approval process so it shouldn’t be long before the app shows up in the app store. There are no plans to bring DekkoScan to Android yet, citing costs for developing for another platform. If the app is successful, the team will look into bringing the app to Android.
