Digimon Story: Time Stranger is getting a big free update on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Bandai Namco says. It adds Terriermon Assistant as a playable character, brings in a Photo Mode, reworks the Digifarm screen, and adds new graphics options on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Console players will also finally be able to run the game at up to 60fps, which goes straight at one of the biggest complaints about the original 30fps cap. Bandai Namco says the new Digifarm layout should make Digivolution requirements easier to check too, with less menu hopping.

Switch 2 players get a choice here. There’s a Quality Mode that targets 4K HDR at up to 30fps, and a Performance Mode that runs at full HD at up to 60fps. The original Nintendo Switch version gets the update a day later, though it won’t get the same headline visual upgrades.

If you’ve been playing Digimon Story: Time Stranger since it launched on October 3, 2025 as the seventh Digimon Story game, this looks like a patch worth grabbing. Same goes if you dropped it because the performance felt behind what modern hardware should be able to do. Bandai Namco is still tuning the game ahead of a paid DLC expansion planned for 2027.

The free patch goes live on July 9 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch get it on July 10.
