Discord has become one of the most popular social platforms in recent times. However, there is a particular audience with whom it has managed to connect: gamers. Now, Discord wants to enhance its gaming side even more. How? By allowing developers to create games and applications that can be used directly from the platform.
For months, Discord users have been able to enjoy a series of minigames and programs within the application itself through Activities. However, Discord wants to go a step further. Starting on March 18th, developers will have access to a new SDK that will allow them to build these new integrated applications.
This is explained by Discord itself through its official blog: “We want Discord to become the best place for developers to do it all: build, share, distribute, be discovered, and monetize their work […] We want Discord to be the place where your app lives its beginnings, where it finds its place in user communities around the world, and where it can be easily shared among friends.”
To promote the development of new apps, Discord has brought back the Discord App Pitches, where developers can present their ideas and have the opportunity to receive funding of up to 30,000 dollars.
