It is clear that Disney’s strategy of putting everything in the hands of Marvel and Star Wars has not worked out very well. 2023 was quite delicate for Bob Iger’s company in this regard, so much so that they decided to pause several of the movies and series they had planned for these brands. However, their strategy with their classic IPs and original content has not been so bad, and now we can see that their more direct strategy will go in this direction.

The company has just announced several new developments they are currently working on, and with all of them it is clear that Marvel and Star Wars have become secondary. On the contrary, series like Percy Jackson and the Olympians are in luck, as well as some of their classic animated films.

Disney release calendar updated

Although some of these projects had already been announced, Disney has rescheduled its releases, and this is how things stand after the new announcements:

Inside Out 2 (Inside Out 2): June 14, 2024

Moana 2 (Moana 2): November 27, 2024

Elio: June 13, 2025

Zootopia 2: November 26, 2025

Frozen 3: 2026

Toy Story 5: 2026

With the exception of Elio, all the movies are sequels of successful Disney movies, so it’s clear that they are going to continue exploiting their IPs as much as they can. But these are not the only upcoming releases from Disney. There is another one joining them: the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Although it was an open secret, it has finally been confirmed that the series based on Rick Riordan’s books will have a second part. Considering the timing of the story, it is most likely that filming will begin in a few months and the premiere will be sometime in 2025.
