Disney releases a new Toy Story short for the best possible reason: helping sick children

Disney just released The Magic of Movies: Jessie Saves the Day, a new Toy Story companion short tied to Disney’s The Magic of Movies initiative. The aim is simple: bring some comfort, and maybe a little joy, to sick children dealing with incredibly hard situations.

We all know and love Disney movies. What fewer people know is that The Walt Disney Company also does a lot of work to bring comfort and a little joy to sick children going through those same incredibly tough moments. Sometimes it does that through its own stories, with efforts like The Magic of Movies and companion shorts like the newly released The Magic of Movies: Jessie Saves the Day.

All for the kids

In the short, a young girl has to get an X-ray on her foot, and she’s understandably anxious about it. Jessie notices, and the toys in the waiting room decide to step in and help.

To show her there’s nothing to fear, they get X-rays of themselves, and the results are hilarious. It’s a very simple idea, but a sweet one: help her settle down and make the whole thing feel a little less overwhelming.

The short is part of Disney’s The Magic of Movies campaign, which, according to Disney, brings mobile cinemas, Disney+ subscriptions, and personalized experiences to hospitalized and seriously ill children. The idea is to help them hold on to that sense of childhood and wonder through Disney films.

It’s a lovely initiative. It also shows that Disney magic doesn’t stop at the screen.
