Disney+ is in the early stages of developing a series based on the popular book franchise Animorphs, a work that has captivated generations since its release in the 90s. The streaming platform aims to revive this story, which follows a group of young people who gain the ability to transform into different animals to fight against an alien invasion.
Animorphs could be coming back very soon
Bayan Wolcott has been chosen as the writer and executive producer of the project, marking a promising addition to the development of the series. Her experience in screenwriting and production could bring a fresh and contemporary approach to the original narrative. Alongside her, are Ryan Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler, who will also take on roles as executive producers through Proximity Media, a production company known for its commitment to diverse and meaningful stories.
In addition, Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman will serve as executive producers on behalf of Scholastic, the same publisher that released the original Animorphs books. This direct link to Scholastic ensures that the series maintains a close connection to the source material, which is essential for the saga’s fans.
Although details about the premise and format are still limited, the production of an Animorphs series by Disney+ may add an additional layer of excitement to a universe that has been widely explored in other media, such as comics and video games. With the growing popularity of literary adaptations on television, many hope that this series will be a tribute to the original work and introduce it to a new audience. More information is expected to be revealed as the project progresses in its development, a move that will undoubtedly generate anticipation among fans.
