It seems that no one is safe from being targeted by hackers, wherever they are. Now, the FBI has started advising people not to use public charging stations, which can be found in buses, airports and shopping malls, for example.

But why shouldn’t we use these stations? What’s going on? Simple: hackers have discovered a way to inject malware through these charging stations. This is what the official Denver FBI account has reported: “bad actors have figured out how to use public charging stations to install malware and tracking software”.

However, the FBI is not the only agency that advises against the use of these structures. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) itself also repeats the same warning, stating that hackers can place malware in the USB ports of charging stations and maliciously access the machines.

What can we do to keep our cell phones safe?

Hackers and computer baiters lurk around every corner, and they perpetrate their attacks in the most imaginative ways. Last year, the FBI also asked people to be careful about scanning unknown QR codes in public.

“Cybercriminals are using this technology to steal victim data by directing QR code scans to malicious sites.” In conclusion: always bring your own portable charger and of course, don’t click on links of dubious origin.
