The day has finally arrived. After years and years of agonizing and with less and less power, we have said our final goodbye to E3. What was once the most important video game event in the industry; the place where studios showed their great news, has said goodbye forever.

The main reason for the cancellation of E3 is the lack of participating companies. Without Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft, it already seemed that it was not going to have much life. But after the announcement of non-attendance by Ubisoft, its only great hope, the event has decided to close its doors.

The end of E3 speaks of a new trajectory in the video game industry, where things are going to be done differently each time. However, there are still a few events to keep an eye on in order to stay on top of the news.

The best alternatives to E3

Without going any further, three events will take place this summer that, while all are smaller and/or niche, recapture some of the original spirit of E3. These events are as follows:

Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest – June 8

Summer Game Fest started in 2020 and aims to be the perfect alternative to E3. In previous years we saw, as part of the festival, the first Elden Ring trailer and the announcement of The Last of Us multiplayer game. This year, all eyes are on a Cyberpunk 2077 expansion. Festival organizers say it will be the “biggest” in its history, so stay tuned.

Xbox Games Showcase at Microsoft – June 11th

The Xbox Showcase of previous years is a mine of news, with the announcement that Overwatch 2 would be free or the first gameplay of Starfield. Microsoft’s standalone event is the perfect place for company announcements, and this year promises to be just as interesting. In addition, a show dedicated to Starfield will be held after the event.

Ubisoft Forward Live – June 12

Ubisoft will not be, for the first time, at E3. But instead it will present, next June, an event of its own in which they will surely take the opportunity to present Assassin’s Creed Mirage in depth and focus on other expected titles such as the remake of Prince of Persia.
