Ed Harris hates his role in ‘Dutton Ranch’. “Get me the hell out of here”

Yellowstone is the franchise that never stops pulling in strong ratings. Despite already having a whopping 5 different series since 2018 with a multitude of spin-offs in the works, there isn’t a single one that doesn’t reach its target audience. Maybe that’s why it’s surprising that there are actors who don’t end up all that happy about being part of this franchise, which guarantees them a role known all across the United States with the potential to capitalize on it in a later series: the goose that lays the golden egg.

What am I doing here?

That is the case, however, with Ed Harris, who in an interview said they misled him into signing on for Dutton Ranch: “Before I signed, they told me a little about what the season was about and what my character was going to do, and that he was one of the four leads. And that wasn’t really what was happening“. Basically, they bent his ear so they’d have his name in the cast even if the character was second-string.

Mind you, he liked the series, and watching it he felt his character mattered, but it didn’t feel that way while shooting: “I said ‘I feel underused and inconsequential,’ and they said ‘Oh.’ They’ve told me my character will have more to do in season 2. I was a little frustrated, to be honest“. In fact, he even asked his team to get him out of there “as fast as fucking possible”.

In fact, Harris was especially frustrated that they cut his favorite scene, which took place at a karaoke bar: “There’s a scene… I’m talking to Beth at the bar, and Rip comes in and says ‘Come on, Everett, it’s your turn.’ I walk to the mic, and they cut it. They cut the whole song. I was like ‘Fuck you’“. The season 2 shoot, of course, is going to be an interesting one, like a Christmas dinner with a family that’s not on good terms.
