Ewan McGregor wants more Obi-Wan: he’s pitching Lucasfilm new ideas

Ewan McGregor is back in the conversation after saying he wants more than a quick Obi-Wan Kenobi cameo. He’d like another real story to tell, and he says he’d be happy playing the Jedi for the rest of his career.

Lucasfilm hasn’t announced anything new, and company president Kathleen Kennedy has said a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi isn’t currently being developed. Even so, McGregor says he’s been talking with Dave Filoni and tossing around ideas, including a story set in the roughly nine-year stretch between the 2022 Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi and Star Wars: A New Hope. That window could give Obi-Wan more room to sit with exile, duty, his connection to the Force, and maybe even a meeting with Yoda.

McGregor also threw out a much weirder idea: a time-travel romance with Hera Syndulla. He admitted that canon would be a mess, so it sounds more like him having fun than a pitch anyone is seriously building.

If you thought McGregor was one of the strongest parts of a first season that got a mixed response, especially over the writing and pacing, this is something to keep an eye on. Fan demand still carries some weight, and McGregor’s performance got plenty of praise.
