Expedition: Into Darkness gets a free Steam demo: try it now

Antediluvian Interactive put out a free Steam demo for Expedition: Into Darkness on August 6. It’s a medieval PvE co-op extraction looter, and this is your first chance to get hands-on before the full PC release, which is still slated for Q4 2026.

In the August 6 demo, you drop into procedurally generated dungeon runs and decide how far you want to push your luck. Go deeper and the loot gets better. Extract in time and you keep what you found. Die, and your current character is gone along with every piece of gear you had on you. Anything you left back at base camp, though, stays there.

You can tackle it alone or with up to five players in co-op. The combination of bleak dungeon crawling, constant loot chasing, slower and harsher melee combat, and real risk gives Expedition: Into Darkness a vibe that lands somewhere near Diablo, just with the tighter nerves and punishment you’d expect from Dark Souls. Weapon and armor customization also give you room to build out different roles.

So far, Steam reviews for Expedition: Into Darkness sit at Mixed. Players seem to like the co-op extraction loop and the fact that the runs stay replayable, but they’ve also pointed to a clunky UI, audio bugs, visual issues, and an overall lack of polish. Antediluvian Interactive is already collecting feedback and has rolled out updates, including fixes for lighting.
