Fans of the Fallout franchise rejoice! It seems the rumors of another Fallout title release, Fallout 5, have finally been confirmed by the Head of Bethesda, Todd Howard. But what does this announcement mean for fans of the franchise?
Rumors were circling that Bethesda had plans for Fallout 5, with a one-page outline of the vision for Fallout 5 circulating in the Bethesda offices since November 2021. However, Todd Howard finally set fans at ease when he announced at the recent showcase that the next installment is in the concept phase.
Last weekend at the Bethesda/Xbox showcase, we were able to get a first proper glimpse at Bethesda’s current project, Starfield. Todd Howard, Head of Bethesda, also delved into what was next for the studio. After Starfield’s release, they will be working full force on the release of Elder Scrolls 6, which is currently in pre-production. After Elder Scrolls 6, the next title in the lineup is Fallout 5.
While this is amazing news for fans of these titles, the studio did warn that it could still be a couple of years before we see these beloved titles. Considering that work on Starfield started in 2015 and is scheduled for release in 2023. That’s seven years of production. The last Elder Scroll game, Skyrim, was released in 2011, and it’s still in pre-production, meaning that it could still be a long while before we see Fallout 5.
However, Todd Howard assured us that this process is only taking so long because they want the games to be the best they can be – which is a good thing for fans, despite the wait.
We don’t yet have any more information on Fallout 5, and we’re still waiting to see any official trailers for Elder Scrolls 6. For now, fans of the franchise will have to be content with playing Fallout 4 and using mods to keep things interesting while we wait. Or perhaps check out Starfield, as the gameplay trailer looks impressive.
