Fallout gets a 2027 expansion: but it’s for the tabletop RPG

Modiphius is planning a 2027 expansion for Fallout: The Roleplaying Game, and it adds the Capital Wasteland, the Commonwealth, and Appalachia to the tabletop RPG’s playable world. If you play Fallout: The Roleplaying Game on a regular basis, this one probably goes on the buy list. It’s not evidence that Bethesda’s Fallout 5 is close, though.

Bethesda has already confirmed that Fallout 5 is in pre-production, and it’s set to arrive after The Elder Scrolls VI, which means any release is still years off. Documents disclosed during Microsoft’s FTC case also pointed to remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, but no dates have been announced. Separate reports have also tied Obsidian Entertainment to its own Fallout project.

The TV side has been busy too. Amazon’s canon Fallout series premiered in 2024, shoved the franchise back into the mainstream, came back for a second season in 2025, already has a third season in production, and is set in 2296, the furthest point in the timeline so far.

That same Amazon series is now heading to the Mojave. At the same time, Bethesda keeps rolling out Fallout 76 updates and accessibility improvements, and says Fallout Shelter has passed 250 million players. That mobile spinoff is even turning into an unscripted TV project.
