The One Piece franchise has reached a new historic milestone, surpassing 600 million copies sold worldwide, solidifying its status as one of the most influential cultural phenomena of recent decades. This achievement has been celebrated with a peculiar initiative from its creator, Eiichiro Oda, who has sealed the answer to one of the great mysteries of the series: What is the One Piece really? In a special video published by the publisher Shueisha, Oda revealed that he has hidden this information in a chest, which will be sent to the bottom of the sea.
Under the sea, under the sea
The news has generated great excitement among fans, who have once again demonstrated their dedication and cleverness. In less than a day, they managed to locate the place where Oda’s message is sunk, using clues related to the launch and its location at sea. Among the clues, it stands out that the launch took place near the coast of Japan, suggesting a possible collaboration with maritime institutions such as JAMSTEC or the Japanese coast guard.
Fans have pointed out elements such as the direction of the sun and the absence of land on the horizon, suggesting that the treasure could be in Suruga Bay, in Shizuoka Prefecture. However, the real challenge remains: recovering the message from the seabed. Despite the desire of many to discover what the One Piece is, several have expressed that if they manage to find it, they would prefer to destroy it, emphasizing the mystique surrounding the series.
Since its launch, fans have proposed various theories about the nature of the One Piece, ranging from a physical object to something more symbolic, like the friendships formed during the journey. Meanwhile, interest in the franchise continues to grow, especially with the premiere of the second season of the One Piece series on Netflix, scheduled for March 10, 2024.
