Square Enix has opened pre-orders for Final Fantasy IX: A Place to Call Home, a collectible music box built around the FFIX track of that name. So no, this isn’t the remake, remaster, or spin-off a lot of people are still waiting on.
The Final Fantasy IX: A Place to Call Home release joins Square Enix’s very nostalgia-driven Final Fantasy music box line, a series that usually leans on case art pulled from or inspired by memorable scenes. It sits next to other Final Fantasy IX entries in the range, including Roses of May and Not Alone.
Pre-orders are already live through Square Enix’s merchandise store listings, with release penciled in for October 2026. Price-wise, Square Enix lists it at around £24.99 in the UK and $28.99 in the US.
If you’re the type who picks up Final Fantasy IX merch, this is an easy one to look at, especially for a game that still has a massive fanbase. A lot of that staying power comes from its old-school fantasy setting, its ensemble cast, a story so focused on relationships, and characters like Vivi, who people still bring up all these years later.
By July 2025, Final Fantasy IX had sold more than 8.9 million copies worldwide, according to Square Enix.
Still, it’s easy to see why the reaction from fans feels a little bittersweet. Plenty of players are far more invested in the long-rumored Final Fantasy IX remake, and newer reports suggest that project may have stalled. Then there’s the reported EuroVisual animated series, Final Fantasy, Black Mages Legacy, which has reportedly been lined up for 2028 and is said to be planned as 10 episodes running 22 minutes each.
If you want it, you can pre-order the Final Fantasy IX: A Place to Call Home music box now through Square Enix’s merchandise listings.
