Final Fantasy Resonance confirmed for Switch 2: it launches October 22, 2026

Square Enix confirmed today that October 22, 2026 that Final Fantasy Resonance, a console remake of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Season 1, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, 2026. It also dropped a new trailer, showing what the publisher calls its first turn-based Final Fantasy built in the company’s HD-2D style. The game is also headed to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Xbox PC, and Square Enix says it’ll be Steam Deck Verified at launch.

The game goes for detailed pixel characters set against layered 3D environments, with a very old-school Final Fantasy mix of crystals, airships, espers, and a party-driven adventure. Square Enix says Final Fantasy Resonance rebuilds the story and gameplay of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Season 1 from the ground up for consoles.

The story takes place in Lapis and follows Grandshelt knights Rain and Lasswell, joined by Fina, as they try to stop the Veritas of the Dark from wiping out the world’s eight elemental crystals. four-character turn-based battles Combat uses four-character turn-based battles. You target enemy weaknesses to build a stagger meter, then break them for bigger damage and extra turns. There’s also the Visions system, which lets players equip phantom warriors to unlock abilities in a flexible setup that works a lot like a job system.

If you’ve been hoping Square Enix would swing back toward a more traditional Final Fantasy, this one seems easy to keep an eye on.

The trailer is up now, and Final Fantasy Resonance launches on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Xbox PC. Steam Deck verification is confirmed for launch too.
