Non-SSL content will be blocked by default on SSL encrypted pages in Firefox 23, slated for release in August. You can already test the Aurora beta version of Firefox 23.

SSL encryption is used by sites to keep data safe. When you see a site with an https address, it is using SSL encryption to encrypt your personal data. However, Some sites mix SSL content with non-SLL content, which makes them less secure.

Since Firefox 18 you have been able to turn on blocking of non SSL content in https sites, but from version 23 is will be turned on by default. This is an attempt by Mozilla to force websites to stop using mixed content and build more secure websites. The protocol will not apply to images and video.

How to activate non-SSL content blocking in Firefox

This option is not easy to find, as you won’t come across it by searching in Options.

Currently, to activate mixed content blocking, you have to type about:config in the Firefox address bar, and search for security.mixed_content. You then right click on the preference names, and click ‘Toggle’ to enable or disable.
