Mozilla’s Firefox has been updated to version 28.0. You can download a fresh version, or update your current browser by clicking on Help and then About.

The first thing you’ll notice after updating is very little has changed again. The upcoming ‘Australis‘ redesign, with its touch friendly features, is still in testing channels.

The few changes in Firefox 28 are under the hood. There’s support for VP9 video decoding, support for the Mac OS X Notification Center, volume control for HTML5 audio and an API that allows for gamepads to work in the browser. They may not be major developments, but they show that Firefox is dedicated to web standards and adapting to new technologies.

Despite its not very radical updates of late, Firefox actually runs a lot faster than it did a few versions ago, and is arguably more stable and quicker than Chrome.

Download Firefox 28 for Windows and Mac OS X.
